The Student advocate is to mediate between students and professors or administrative services of the Institution; to observe legality in the context of academic freedom; to address maladministration issues and to preserve the proper functioning of the Institution. The student advocate has no responsibility for student examinations and grading.
The Senate of the University of Western Macedonia with the decision ΣΤ2 / Σ110 / 08-04-2020 appointed as student advocate Mr. Konstantinos Parisis, Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering (Telephone number: 24610 68292 & 2461056292, email synigorosfoititi@uowm.gr).
The student advocate investigates cases, automatically or following a student report, and mediates in the competent bodies of the Institution for their resolution. The student advocate may request any information, document or other evidence of the case from the services of the Institution as well as examine persons, conduct an autopsy and order an expert opinion. If it is found out that in a particular case the legality is not observed, that there are cases of maladministration or the proper functioning of the Institution is obstructed, the Student Advocate files a report, which notifies the interested professor or the competent administrative service and the student who submitted the report, while he/she simultaneously mediates in order to solve the problem with a conducive way. The student advocate may, by his / her deed, close a case that is deemed manifestly vague, unfounded or unsupported, while in case he / she deems that there are indications of a disciplinary misconduct, he / she forwards the case to the competent disciplinary body. The findings of the student advocate, as well as a report with his/her annual activities, are published on the website of the Institution, without prejudice to the provisions of Law 2472/1997 (A 50), as in force.
