The reflective image
Rania uses space as a way to experientially reflect on the ideas deriving from image. Either in her vertical ladder engravings or in the cedar tree imageσ on in the square canvases made out of…her works adopt an approach with a minimal and elaborate exploration of the initial stimulus.
Image is important for Rania. Rania accumulates images, textures, ideas and shapes her visual objects/surfaces, relying on these observations; a cedar tree, byzantine icons, ladders, textile are all interacting and shaping series of works with an abstracted formalism that prevails. Her work develops in many seemingly diverse and different directions, however all these derive from a genuine effort to understand the material and initiate images based on that. Rania choοses material and processes that have a specific meaning for her and that is detaching her from a merely formalistic approach. The ladder attains a spiritual/religious meeting of ascension, the cedar tree is a comment on a finding in her itinerary in Prespes Lakes, the textiles are a reminiscent of a family memory. All these interpretations allow her to provide to her work a nostalgic element that is paired with a great skill in directing the material.
Image is for Rania a way to reflect on all these that are and have become important in her life as memories of materials and incidents
